Montenegro has been a very popular tourist destination in the last few years and more and more tourists come to explore it for its gorgeous Adriatic Sea coastline and beautiful natural landscapes.
It is a small country (approximately 620.000 inhabitants) on the very south of the Europe, bordering with Croatia (EU) and Bosnia on the west and Serbia on the north, while Albania is on the east. So, it is not in Latin America as it may sound!

The best thing about Montnegro is that in a relativny small area one can easily reach beach and the highes mountain in the same day. So you can swimm in the morning and go skiing in the afternoon.

Is it safe to visit?

Yes, it is a safe country with a very low crime rate. Of course, you should mind your own belongings, especially when on the beach or very crowded places.

The easiest and certainly the fastest way to reach Montenegro is by plane. Montenegro is a so called 'avio' destination, meaning that tourists mostly come by planes. Otherwise, it takes time to reach it. Montenegro has no highway jet and railway system is old and not an option to recommend.

There are two international airports: one on the cost (Tivat) which is very convenient if you are traveling to the costal part, otherwise you can use the other airport based in the central part (in the capital Podgorica).
Several low-cost companies fly from both airports, as well, such as Ryanair or Wizzair. For information on flight schedules visit airport web site: montenegroairports.
Port of Bar has a very good Ferry connection with Bari in Italy. Port of Kotor is a cruising destination.
However, if you are coming by car, please have on mind that in summer months there might be increased traffic which includes waiting on the border. In order to avoid it, I suggest to check info on border crossing waiting time.

Where to stay in Montenegro?

I advised my friend, who was visiting me recently, to stay in Budva.
Budva is convenient for several reasons. It is located in the central part of the coastline, so you can easily explore both directions of the coastline route or elsewhere, traveling will not take too much time. Besides, beaches around Budva  are great and especially if you are visiting in summer you can count on many events and exciting night life.
For couples, Ulcinj is a MUST.
For families with children Tivat, Igalo, Petrovac are good options.
So, explore Montenegro!
