Podgorica for tourists - from perspective of locals

What to see in Podgorica?

You can easily find a top 10 places to visit in Podgorica sites, but, the real soul of the city can only be felt when walking down the city streets and visiting it's cult places...

Sastavci is definitely one one them. It is a place where two rivers gather, Moraca and Ribnica. Originating from Roman period, when Podgorica was part of ancient Prevalis, this bridge is still standing over Ribnica river. It kept its original shape, and in time had only some minor reconstructions. This used to be favourite place for young couples to meet and enjoy the evening by the calm water of Moraca at the time when cafees were not so popular meeting places, as they are now.

St Peters of Cetinje Boulevard is the most frequent Street in Podgorica (and my neighborhood). It's known for its old tries that make it shady and pleasant to have a nice walk down the street in sunny and warm days. Trees flourish in spring and their beautiful blue flowers arrange the whole street...
At the end of the boulevard when you reach the Blaza Jovanovica Bridge, on your right side you will notice a monument dedicated to the most famous leader and person who represents after war era of antinacism and socialism, a person whose name this town carried for years. Josip Broz Tito. Maybe, not so popular and known to younger generations, but a monument worth seeing definitely.
On the other end of St Peter of Cetinje there is a Orthodox Church Temple, dedicated to Jesus Christ resurrection. The temple was recently build, although it looks as if its old. It is the biggest Orthodox Church Temple in Montenegro and the second biggest in the Region, after the Temple of St Sava in Belgrade. The temple is open for visits and morning and evening service. You can also light and candle at the space near the entrance on the left side.
The main Square of Podgorica is definitely one of the main spots of the city. Ones it was a market place with lots of shops around the square. The Freedom Street connects the square with the Stadium on one side and Brace Zlaticanina Bridge on the other and Hilton hotel.
It is the main promenade place in the town. At the evening, locals gather from all parts of the town at the square to have a walk or for a cup of cofe in near caffes. On weekends, the square is full of local and traditional products such as honey, tea or home made jam.
Podgorica inhabitants love sunny days and enjoy in shady gardens where they gather in morning and evening hours.
Central part of Podgorica offers several parks where you can refresh during the day and relax in calm atmosphere. Unfortunately, newer parts of the town do not offer many green areas, but more and more buildings and parking places are being build instead. Hopefully, new generations will recognise the need of making the town greener and cleaner in the future, because now it's not the case.
