Location perfect for exploring Montenegro?
When my friend was visiting me last summer I was thinking: where on Earth should I tell him to stay?
He wanted to visit many beaches, Boka Bay, but also several rivers and lakes on the north, as well as the Old Capital of Cetinje and Ostrog Monastery.
Ok, it's a great plan! - I had to admit. But, he wanted to know where to stay... Where to look for...?
We both agreed that it has to be on the coast, since he was mostly interested in what I call 'sun&sea'. He also planned to rent a car, so that he could visit all the places he wanted. I was a bit worried, because roads in Montenegro are (being a hilly mountain country) curvy, drivers are nervous when the temperature rises and so on... parking spaces lacking, traffic jams when everybody comes back from the beach, I mentioned, but he didn't listen. In addition he arranged a driver to wait for him at the airport, and it all went well (he landed in Podgorica, so needed a lift to the coast).
We decided to look for the location somewhere in between of Petrovac and Budva. Both places are a good option and have good road connection for both, south and north. Petrovac connects to airport PodgoricaGolubovci and the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, with new tunnel that provides quick access (road fee 2.5 euros per direction). On the other hand, Budva is a bit bigger and also gets you quickly to Cetinje, Kotor and other destinations.
Petrovac seamed small, so he choosed Budva, it seamed to offer more options. He also liked island St. Nicolas or locally known as 'Hawai', which is possitioned opposite of Budva and he planned to visit it.
The next thing was to get the proper apartment. He notices that prices in apartments are lower than in hotels, and they planned to drive around most of the time.
That was the most difficult part. He was picking apartments he liked on pictures and I was to approve the location. First he liked an apartment in Sveti Stefan, but I told him that it was positioned on a hill and he needed to climb up and down every time he wants to go on the beach. He was very sorry to hear that because the place had a great view from the terrace.
In the next blog you can see the apartment we chosed.
